#GivingTuesday Campaign: David’s Harp

Thank you so much for being here and finding out more about our mission to donate the month of November to the David’s Harp Foundation, for #GivingTuesday. If you have some time to spare, I’d love to tell you the “Why” of choosing this amazing non-profit.

One of the biggest struggles for me into transitioning my business into a more socially aware brand, has always been my brand. My brand is cheeky. Yes, I use curse words openly and without shame. My brand is all about empowering women to find their voice and to change their lives and their communities. Regardless of that message, I have been turned down by over a dozen non-profit organizations who would not openly endorse The Roc Shop as a supporter and a charitable donor. Which seriously breaks my heart.

But there has been a non-profit organization, that has embraced my ideology and my message, and they have been cheerleaders and encouraging of my mission; David’s Harp Foundation. Not only are they the best bunch of people ever, they are also the most encouraging and supportive people I have met. They constantly give. David’s Harp Foundation is an after school program for at risk homeless youth. But before I go any further, let me explain how DH defines “At Risk”. They would like you to know that “At Risk” does not carry the traditional and negative connotation. But instead, for them, “At Risk” means, a teen is “At Risk” for not reaching their POTENTIAL.  WHOA!!

Their aim is

“academic success through music education, sound engineering and multimedia production”.

They are guiding teens to use their potential and to embrace confidence, self-worth, working within a community, and both self-respect and respect for those within their community and beyond.

I know you must think it is weird that a women empowerment brand would be donating to a non-profit that isn’t necessarily focused on women. Here’s why: We cannot forget the dynamics of community based interactions. This world, our communities, do not work as just female or male. Communities work when everyone is in it to win it, together!  I personally want to be a part of the growth of any child who will be a part of our society. I want to support both young men and women in their dreams and goals to better their lives, to learn to respect one another, communicate, work together and, overall, the value of self-worth.

I have seen first-hand how funds raised for this organization has changed the lives of their students. Funding has allowed them to expand their faculty. Bring in more professional mentors, purchase more state-of-the-art equipment, and expand their programs. No doubt, I am beyond thrilled to be volunteering with David’s Harp and also dedicating 20% of our profits throughout the month of November. I am completely passionate about this non-profit organization. They are family to those who need it most. They are a ladder to a dream, a new path to a brighter, caring, and more diverse future.

Please know that 20% of your Roc Shop purchase will be donated on November 28th, 2017 to David’s Harp Foundation. Thank you for letting me be your eyes, your heart, and your soul to give back to my community.  I believe in this organization with my entire being. Thank you for being a part of our #GivingTuesday campaign and helping us to make an impact and a difference.
